WHAT TIME IS IT ?
Carl Bard said and I quote “though no one can go back to make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending”. We may be unable to re-write our pasts despite how easy it seem to take a persistent re-play in our memories and mind, but we can make up for the losses if only we want to.
There is a cogent need for us to work hard today to save our tomorrow from yesterday. No man moves at full speed (best capacity) looking backward, with the aim of moving forward. A driver for instance will lower his pace while looking through his side mirror or rear window, but can move almost scaling through the maximum limit of the speedometer while looking through the windscreen. This implies that concentrating more on what’s and How’s of achievement will put you at the frontline, rather than living in an island of regret or complacency of yester-years success.
We often believe there is more time ahead of us compared to that which we have used up in terms of how old we actually are. We spend irrecoverable time doing irrelevances and try telling stories of what we would have done at old age. Making a clear and undisputable analysis of a 70year life span with a 24hour time schedule will make you give answers to the question ‘what time is it’?
AGE > 20 years old = 6:51am (TIME)
AGE > 25 years old = 8:21am (TIME)
AGE > 30 years old = 10:21am (TIME)
AGE > 35 years old = 12 noon (TIME)
AGE > 40 years old = 01:36pm (TIME)
AGE > 45 years old = 03:18pm (TIME)
AGE > 50 years old = 05:00pm (TIME)
AGE > 55 years old = 06:42pm (TIME)
AGE > 60 years old = 08:24pm (TIME)
AGE > 65 years old = 10:06pm (TIME)
AGE > 70 years and above = close to midnight (TIME)
I am close to 30, and my time on life’s clock is about 10:12am.This can be compared literarily to when every man get engrossed in the work for the day at his place of work. We can continue to make analysis, but what strikes my heart the most is why people celebrate their 50th birthdays. If we compare 50 with its corresponding value on the time of life, 5pm is a time when anyone closes from work and begins preparation on returning home. You know best what category you belong and what you should be doing by now if every man see life from this perspective.
The bitter truth is that only those who view life from this perspective will actually make headways or step ahead as the title of this column depicts. The question I ask myself everyday is if time is actually on my side like every one say. When distractions come to shift your focus from what to do to what friends or colleagues feel should be done; since you are responsible for your failure or success, you can comfortably take the right step irrespective of who will be hurt. Our destinies lie in our hands and must not sacrifice it on the altar of friendship or what people will say.
God has an idea of what you can do was why He loaded you with all you need to be what you want to be. The mistake we make is comparing our talents, gifts or achievements with someone else’s. You alone know what you want to be or achieve. As a matter of fact, God gave you alone the blue print. If you succeed, those who seem to mock you while you avoid the status quo will be the first to congratulate and rejoice with you. But if otherwise, they will also be the first to throw the stones of blames at you. Why then should we care more about those that our results determine their disposition to us.
If we all answer the question what time it is daily, we will be more focused and filled with the drive, zeal and passion to succeed, no matter the stakes people take. As we make plans to ensure that the night does not fall without we laying our landmarks, there are three important places I expect us to look so as to get our dreams achieved. If your midnight comes on the time of life and you have nothing to show for it, some categories of people will not forgive you. God who has embedded so much in you will be the first to be so disappointed in you. Thereafter, your siblings, family, children and parents will be disappointed, and then your colleagues, friends and enemies who were envious of you at the sunset of your life will also be disappointed.
PLACES TO LOOK
- LOOK UPWARD: The first place to look is to look upward. When we look upward, we show God our inability to achieve anything without Him. Some religions disagree with this notion, but what gives me the reason to feel so is the idea of buying mantras but can’t buy sleep, a woman but not a wife, a house but not comfort, a car but not safety. This implies there is a God factor that can’t be left out in all our life endeavours. When we look up to God before commencing anything we aspire to do, it helps us to tap into the extra ordinary grace that nature (God) bestows on the human race. It takes a very few to be outstanding, without mincing words, the outstanding ones actually have the grace to win the race.
- LOOK INWARD ; After looking upward to God, the next place to look is inward . Looking inward depicts counting on the talents, treasures and abilities deposited in us from above. In life we should learn to use what we have to get what we need. A little girl need not cry to the mother to grow breast. Life is in stages and we all are in sizes. When Moses was confused about defeating the Egyptians, God taught him to use what he had. He used his rod to divide the sea, it turned to snake and even brought out water from the rock. When Goliath began threatening the people of Israel, no one could confront him, but David showed the miracle behind using what you have to get what you need by using a catapult to fall a mighty giant. Until you look inward after looking upward, you may not appreciate the value of the virtues you carry.
- LOOK OUTWARD; The last place to look to is what most people look to at first. Until we do the right thing in the right way, we may not get the right result. Looking outward may warrant you seeing the people around you that can contribute positively to your vision or dreams. On the contrary, people think of their uncles, aunts or wealthy family friends before talking to God or discovering themselves. The truth is in most times they end up disappointed because they have not followed the right track. When you look upward, then inward and afterwards outwards, the un-achievable becomes quite easy to achieve. What is most important in life is to achieve within the space of time and don’t set out when you should be preparing to take a rest according to the time of life. If I may ask, ‘what time is it on your time of life ’?
